Famous dancer and choreographer Marie-Claude Pietragalla takes to the stage as the legendary singer Barbara. In this stunning show, she is the living reflection of the musical icon, transporting the audience into the singer’s poetic and melancholy world.
Through every movement, gesture and expression, Pietragalla reveals the depth of the emotions that marked Barbara’s music. Her dance turns into a vibrant expression, translating the artist’s emblematic songs and lyrics.
Memories, joys and sorrows materialise in every step, offering the audience a unique visual and emotional experience.
‘ An October evening at the Châtelet. It was unforgettable! An artist’s dressing room… Her hand in mine, that wild, enigmatic presence. On stage, she flies, she takes off. From her piano to her rocking chair, she enjoys the slightest moment, the slightest breath, the silence of a theatre vibrating in unison. Her slim black silhouette, her ballerina-like walk on the half-points, she watches her audience, an audience already won over.
She breathes on the stage hours before the curtain opens, taking the pulse of an imaginary, beloved, desired audience… The stage is her home, where all boundaries vanish, black turns to light, time is disrupted, the realities of life are metamorphosed in the chiaroscuro of the spotlights.
Barbara knows that details shape differences, that taking the stage is a joy and a pain, and that leaving it is a heartbreaker. But already it’s time to hit the road again for a new adventure, a new blank page to be coloured in, the thrill of feeling alive.
The musical notes draw a score where sighs dance, where silences dance. Barbara has pierced my soul with her whispers and transformed my everyday life into poetry.
